Beyond being a base camp, Sonamarg is a destination of its own.

Hire a local Union taxi to take you up the Zoji La pass to Zero Point. This is where the landscape changes from green meadows to high-altitude cold desert.
Even if you aren't flying, the Neelgrath area offers beautiful views of the valley. It's the primary takeoff point for helicopters to Panjtarni (Amarnath).
Sonamarg is famous for trout fishing in the icy waters. Permits are required from the local fisheries department.
